In the Roman Catholic Tradition sacred images of saints serve as aids of prayer. In the interior of St. Mary’s Church Katukurunda there are four main stature display chambers, three wall statue shelves and one mobile statue chamber where people offer personal prayers and petitions:
- The Statue of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ (front left corner – left wing)
- The Statue of St. Joseph Vaz, the Apostle of Sri Lanka (rear end – left wing)
- The Processional Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary (left front – main sanctuary)
- The statue of the Infant Virgin Mary (Maria Bambina) (left front – main sanctuary)
- Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor (right front – main sanctuary)
The Three statues placed on the Wall Statue Shelves are:
- Statue of Maria Rosa Mystica of Montichiari (right side – nave)
- Statue of the Divine Mercy of Our Lord (left wing)
- Statue of St. Anthony of Padua (right wing)
There is a moveable stature chamber and a statue pedestal placed near the main door of the nave in both St. Mary’s Church, Katukurunda and St. Joseph Vaz Church, Modera respectively, used to place the small statues used for public veneration during the novena devotions. There are four such mini statues used at St. Mary’s Church Katukurunda for blessing of the public during novenas, namely:
- Our Lady of the Assumption (wooden/color)
- Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (wooden/brown)
- Our Lady of Perpetual Succor (plaster of Paris/color)
- Joseph Vaz (wooden/brown)
- Infant Mary (wooden/brown/Planned/not completed)
At St. Joseph Vaz Church, Modera there is a wooden mini statue of St. Joseph Vaz used to bless the faithful during the novena and a Kandyan style carved wooden pillar used to place the same statue near the main door of the Church for public veneration.
