Generally, what is meant by a project in the ecclesial sense is mostly an undertaking, that is sometimes carried out individually as in initiative by the priest or a lay leader that leads to the collaborative effort of the parishioners, involving research or design, that is carefully planned and estimated quantifiably, to achieve a particular aim related to the parish community and pastoral objectives. The sequence of interrelated tasks that it involves being executed over a fixed period of time involves certain costs both human and material with other limitations. A Church project involves a temporary social system and a work ethic based on evangelical values, possibly staffed by teams within or across parish organizations and the community in general to accomplish particular missionary and pastoral tasks under certain time constraints. They are a means to achieving an end which is always greater than itself. Church projects are material, social and spiritual, having always a greater transcendental aim of developing the Church community in its socio-economic and religious dimensions.

The projects carried out in the Katukurunda Parish are many as you will read below. They have not only infrastructural aims, but also long term aims related to enhancing the quality of worship, community-social life, and spirituality in the lives of the people. Thus, the projects can be seen addressing educational, aesthetical, infrastructural, social, moral, technological aspects in the parochial life, and are geared towards developing the quality of participation of the parishioners in the collective spiritual life of the Church. They are both efforts having short term goals leading to the realization of much greater long-term goals. Most of these projects were funded by the generous grants from donors, who are mostly from the parish community. There are many infrastructural needs that await funding for their realization. The two Church buildings still have areas that need urgent attention, and the two communities have areas of development—intellectual, social, and spiritual that need attention. Those volunteers who are willing to help the parish in its projects can contact the Parish Priest for more information by clicking the ‘Contact Us’ or ‘Donations’ Tabs.
