Catechist Volunteers

Katukurunda Parish needs dedicated teachers who are qualified, disciplined, and devout to guide the parish children and adults in the path towards God and the Kingdom. As much as children in the parish not attending Daham Pasala need to be kraaled back into the sheepfold of the faithful, many adults fallen out of their faith and practice need to be re-evangelized to make them return to the Church community. For this daunting task, the necessity for knowledgeable and exemplary catechists is a constant need in the parish. Catechists are needed for the Parish at two levels:

• For children and youth catechism (Daham Pasala)
• For adult catechism (RCIA)

Volunteers can join as catechists after having completed the Ordinary Level or Advance Level examinations, with the minimum of passing the Ordinary Level Roman Catholicism subject in the government certificate examination. Qualifications at the Advance Level Examination alone is insufficient for a Catechist remaining in the apostolate for more than three years. Three levels of basic catechetical training must be completed by every catechist to be a full-fledged qualified catechist.

• • Catechists First Level Certificate Examination (Dharmach arya Prathama)
  • Catechists Second Level Certificate Examination (Dharmacharya Madhyama)
  • Catechists Third Level Certificate Examination (Dharmacharya Gaurava)

Every volunteer who wishes to teach in the Parish Daham Pasala must complete the First Level within the first two years upon joining the Parish catechetical staff. Prior to the completion of the first four years of service catechists must strive to complete the first two levels of the above qualifications. Every catechist completing six years must complete all three levels of the above qualifications. In this way a two-year time period is allocated for every level for a catechist to complete. Any male or female above the age of 16 years, can apply to be a member of the catechetical apostolate in the parish.
